Oh well, it was about time that one of the most recognisable logos in the tech world goes into oblivion and gives room for a new brighter future. Nah, I am kidding..the new Instagram logo is not good at all.
I can’t really point out whether too much change is against human nature, i.e. we can barely handle another design fail after Airbnb or something about the logo is just not quite right. Contrary to the negative opinions though, we owe to Instagram and might as well give it a try. I mean, at a second glance, it does evoke happy feelings..Instagram’s new visual identity is focused on ‘more consistent design’ and ‘look that would represent the community’s full range of expression — past, present, and future.’ says Ian Spalter – head of design at Instagram. You can read the detailed explanation of the choices behind the redesign in Medium’s post.
In efforts to modernize the app, Instagram goes a step further by improving UI of the app.
‘While the icon is a colorful doorway into the Instagram app, once inside the app, we believe the color should come directly from the community’s photos and videos’
The logo of Instagram is as colourful as it can get, while the design of the app is black and white. I must admit though that the new design looks more peaceful. Instagram confirms hat it was developed to focus more on user’s posts.
The current color scheme update will be soon fully rolled out for iOS and Android users, even though Google Play Store’s update will take a while.
